Dermaplaning in San Diego
Revitalize Skin with Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that instantly gives the complexion a radiant glow. It has been used as a do-it-yourself form of manual exfoliation for many years, although lately it has received more attention from skin care providers for its incredible skin-smoothing benefits. Trusting dermaplaning to a skin care expert increases the safety and results of treatment. Dermaplaning is available at Belladerma Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Care Center, one of San Diego’s premier facilities for aesthetic treatment. Dr. Dennis Bucko and his team of skin care providers have helped many people enjoy the revitalizing benefits of dermaplaning.

Similar to microdermabrasion, dermaplaning is a method of skin refinishing or resurfacing often suggested to individuals with rough, dry skin, deep acne scars and other complexion problems. It is not recommended to individuals with acne in the active stages because there is a risk of infection. The treatment involves using a small blade to scrape off the top layer of dead skin cells. This accomplishes several goals: it removes baby-fine vellus hairs (often referred to as “peach fuzz”), which can cause a buildup of dirt and oil in the follicles. Dermaplaning also gives the skin a smoother, more luminous appearance. Removing the top layer of skin can increase the efficacy and penetration of topical products; many people find that their products penetrate the skin more deeply after dermaplaning.
During a dermaplaning treatment session, the skin is prepped with a special cleanser or serum to loosen dead skin cells and allow for deeper exfoliation. A small handheld blade is used to make delicate strokes in the opposite direction of hair growth. This painlessly skims off the surface layers of the skin and removes the baby hairs.
After the entire face has been shaved, a hydrating moisturizer or sunscreen is applied to the skin to lock in moisture. In some cases, dermaplaning is followed up by a chemical peel or a laser treatment for more dramatic results. The dermaplaning preps the skin for the laser or chemical peel, which offers even greater exfoliating powers.
Some might worry that shaving the baby hairs makes them grow back heavier and darker, but that is not the case. Post-treatment, superficial vellus hair grows at the same color and texture as prior to treatment.
Dermaplaning is safe enough to be performed on a steady basis (e.g., as often as every two weeks, or when vellus hair starts to grow back). There are very few side effects, and there is no downtime after dermaplaning. Women often find that after dermaplaning, makeup applies more smoothly. Dermaplaning can be performed as part of a regular skin care routine or in anticipation of a special event for a beautiful glow.
