Expressive movement of the facial skin by the muscles in between the brows and around the eyes and forehead can form unwanted lines and wrinkles. These variable wrinkles are called “dynamic” wrinkles because they are caused by movement, rather than age. They can become permanent over time.
Neurotoxins are used to relax the muscles’ movement, which reduce the wrinkling and result in softer, smoother lines. The onset of the results can usually be seen within 24 to 48 hours after treatment, but can take up to 14 days to take full effect. The results typically last three to four months and downtime is minimal.
With the two neurotoxins being similar, it’s important that patients come in for a complimentary consultation at our La Jolla office with Dr. Bucko, or Deb Prescott, R.N, his registered nurse for over 20 years. Dr. Bucko and Deb can properly assess the patient’s goals and make the best recommendations.
Why Patients Choose Us
Patients that choose our practice can be confident that they will receive beautiful, natural-looking results.
Dr. Bucko and Deb Prescott, R.N. conduct the consultation thoughtfully to learn more about the patient’s specific areas of concern and desired results. Following the consultation, Dr. Bucko or Deb will perform the treatment in-office; appointments typically take about 30 minutes and can be conveniently scheduled on a lunch break from work.
Patient comfort is taken very seriously; ice packs are provided afterward to reduce the risk of discomfort, bruising and swelling. Dr. Bucko or Deb follows up with the patient after treatment to check in on them and answer any questions.
More about Botox® & Dysport®
Comprised of a purified protein, Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® are both injectable products used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines without dramatically changing the facial expressions.
Areas that can be treated with Botox and Dysport:
Frown lines (in-between the eyebrows)
Forehead wrinkles (horizontal wrinkles)
What to expect:
Botox and Dysport are designed to block nerve impulses to the facial muscles responsible for producing expressions and wrinkles. The products reduce the muscle activity and temporarily prevent contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines, crow’s feet or forehead wrinkles. Injections around the mouth are usually not performed as they weaken the smile and lip movements.
The number of injections needed and the amount of product used depend on the severity of the wrinkles and the size of the treatment area. Treatment typically takes 30 minutes. Patients can return to work and their normal routine almost immediately without any downtime.
Results are temporary and generally last three to four months, at which point the body dissolves and absorbs the product. Regular treatments to maintain the results are recommended.
Botox and Dysport can be combined with additional cosmetic treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing or dermal fillers, for maximum anti-aging effects. Dr. Bucko and his team can recommend complementary treatments based on the specific needs of the individual patient. Some wrinkles can be reduced permanently by surgery, such as a brow lift for frown lines.
