Overview

With the nose being a central feature on our face, is it important for your nose to be in proportion with your other facial features. Whether caused by heredity, or injury, your nose may not compliment your face, which can affect your self-confidence. You may even have problems with breathing due to the anatomy of your nose. A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that can reshape the nose in a number of ways, and can also improve breathing.

You are a candidate for a Rhinoplasty if:

• You are unhappy with the proportion of your nose to your other facial features
• Your nose is wide at the bridge or at the nostrils
• You have a visible hump or dip on the bridge
• The nasal tip is bulbous, drooping, upturned, or hooked
• Your nostrils are large or wide
• Your nose is crooked
• You have trouble breathing due to a deviated septum

How the procedure is performed:

• 1-2 hours in an outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia
• Incisions are generally made inside the nose
• Through the incisions, the nasal bones, cartilage, and soft tissues are reshaped to improve the structure of the nose
• Dr. Bucko usually uses a cast, and possibly splints to support the healing process

Recovery:

• You can go home after your procedure or we can arrange AFTERCARE for you
• Dr. Bucko will prescribe pain medication, anti-nausea medication, antibiotics, and any other medications you need to optimize your recovery
• The cast is removed 7 days after surgery and the splits are removed 10 days after
• Most patients feel great within 10 days after surgery and look great 2 weeks after surgery

Additional procedures that could enhance your results are a chin augmentation, and a Septoplasty may be appropriate if your have a deviated septum.
