Overview
Whether caused by age or inherited, you may notice that eyes appear tired and older. This is usually caused by loose skin and extra fat in the upper or lower eyes that can accumulate as you age which hides the eyes. An eyelid lift is a surgical procedure that can tighten the loose skin, and remove or redistribute the extra fat in the eyelid area.
You are a candidate for an Eyelid Lift if:
• You have extra, loose or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin or hooding of the eyes due to extra skin.
• You have loose skin on your upper lids that hinders your vision
• You have puffiness on your upper or lower lids
How the procedure is performed:
• 1-2 hours in an outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia
• Incisions are made in the upper lids where the natural crease would be, and on the lower lid under the lash line or can be hidden inside the lower eyelid.
• Excess skin and/or fat are removed from the upper and/or lower lids through the incisions
• Fat can also be repositioned in the lower eyelids instead of removed so that a youthful volume still remains.
• In the case the only fat is being removed from the lower lids, the incision can be made inside the lash line (transconjunctival blepharoplasty)
• Sutures are usually used to close incisions and tape may be used to cover sutures on upper lids
Recovery:
• You can go home after your procedure or we can arrange AFTERCARE for you.
• Dr. Bucko will prescribe pain medication, anti-nausea medication, antibiotics, and any other medications you need to optimize your recovery
• Sutures are removed 4-6 days after surgery
• Most patients feel great within 7 days after surgery and look great within 1-2 weeks after surgery
