Overview
Facial expressions, especially in the eye area, are a common way to illustrate how you are feeling. However, over time, the movements of our forehead and eyes can cause permanent creases and wrinkles.
Over time the brow will also sag from age, causing hooding of the upper eyelids to the point where you can appear sad or tired. Additionally, the eyebrows can become asymmetrical or sag to an undesirable position. A forehead lift is a surgical procedure that can reposition and smooth the entire brow area. In addition the muscle that causes the furrows between the eyebrows can be removed. All of these changes can make you appear older, tired or angry when you are not.
You are a candidate for a Forehead Lift if:
• You have a low, sagging forehead or brows
• You have frown lines between your brows
• You have hooding in your upper eyes that is alleviated by lifting the brow. Dr. Bucko has been quoted saying “About 80% of the patients that come in and are bothered by loose skin on the upper lids need a brow lift, not upper eyelid surgery.”
How a Forehead Lift is performed:
• 1-2 hours in an outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia
• Incisions are made back in the hairline across the top of the head or at the base of the forehead (“hairline incision”).
• Through those incisions excess skin is removed and the brow is lifted into a higher position; the muscles between the eyes can be removed and the eyebrows can be made more symmetrical.
• Dr. Bucko will use sutures to close the incision and will apply a head dressing to protect your incisions.
Recovery:
• You can go home following your procedure and will require someone to stay with you for 24 hours or we can arrange AFTERCARE for you
• Dr. Bucko will prescribe pain medication, anti-nausea, antibiotics, and any other medication you need to optimize your recovery
• Sutures are removed 4-6 days after surgery
• Most patients can resume routine activities 7 -10 days after surgery and exercise within 2-3 weeks after surgery.
• Incisions are well hidden in the hairline and will take up to 6 months to fully heal.
