Overview
Even with proper diet and exercise, you may still struggle with disproportionate contours of their body due to localized excess fat deposits. This can actually be caused by heredity rather than the lack of weight control and can accumulate over time due to aging or occur when you are young. Liposuction or “Liposculpture” is a surgical procedure that can offer improvement in the proportion and contour of the body by permanently removing excess localized fat cells.
You are a candidate for Liposuction if:
• You have excess fat in a localized area or several localized areas, which to some extent remains with diet and exercise.
How Liposuction is performed:
• 1.5-2.5 hours in an outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia
• A very small incision(s) (approximately 1”) is made inconspicuously near the area(s) to be treated
• Through those incisions a cannula is used to gently suction the excess fat from the treated area.
• Dr. Bucko may use sutures, but more commonly special tape to close the incisions
• You may also receive a compression garment to help control swelling during your healing.
Recovery following Liposuction
• You can go home after your liposuction procedure and need someone to care for you for 24 hours
• If you prefer, we can arrange AFTERCARE for you
• Dr. Bucko will prescribe pain medication, anti-nausea medication, antibiotics, and any other medications you need to optimize your recovery
• Most patients can resume their routine activities within 5-7 days following liposuction and can resume exercise within 2-3 weeks. You may have some swelling up to 3 months following the procedure but most of your results will be obtained within 4-6 weeks.
• Incisions are minimal with liposuction and usually well hidden, but will take approximately 6 months to fade optimally.
